About Me

Hi, I’m Jess. Mum of two small humans, wife of one larger human. I write what I know, and what I know right now is this mum life. The losing yourself, the sleep deprivation, the joy, the worry, the chaos and most of all, the complete, overwhelming, obsessive love that motherhood brings.

A little bit about me
I’m a writer, former personal trainer, and mum of two little legends. Before kids, I ran a successful fitness blog, and the biggest thrill I got out of it was connecting with women across the globe. Sharing experiences, encouraging each other, feeling like part of something… that’s what I hope to create here on This Mum Life with you.

What is This Mum Life?
This Mum Life is our chance to connect with each other, and support each other through the crazy rollercoaster of motherhood. It’s about the real side of motherhood – the wins, the messes (which ironically are often actually the wins), and everything in between. Here on the site, you’ll find parenting stories, lifestyle hacks, easy family-friendly recipes, and the occasional reminder that you’re doing an amazing job (even when it doesn’t feel like it). I’ve also set up a private Facebook group here, to help us all connect in real time.

Why I created This Mum Life
Six years ago, as a first-time mum, I was completely overwhelmed. I had a baby that didn’t sleep, a body that didn’t feel like mine, and anxiety bubbling away below the surface. And yet, I was in love with being a mum. It was isolating and hard, but also joyful and fulfilling. It was a life of contradictions and I thought that noone could possibly understand what I was going through.

I realise now that my story is not unique. That millions of variations of the above exist. And I wanted to create a space for mums to realise that even in the depths of our loneliness, we are not alone. We can use our collective stories to help prepare mums-to-be, to assist mums through darker times, and to provide a space for lightness and laughter.
